" Reach for the Sky " This painting starts with laying yellow and orange acrylic paint. When dried, a coat of blue and purple acrylic paint is applied. Before that dries, I take a stick (The back of a paintbrush) and scratch the main design, free hand, to reveal the bottom color. Dried, I then heavily applied the bottom color paint. This art is from a painting series titled "Beautifully Broken." It is a 12" X 9" on canvas board abstract expressionistic painting depicting people with different abilities. When I started this project, I noticed that people of different abilities, Disabled folks, which I'm not too fond of the word disabled, were not included in most artists' paintings. This dragonfly pendant is created on two 24-gauge copper sheets. The bottom layer is painted with my mix of yellow-orange enamel. Top layer is hand sawed in an oval shape to reveal the colored bottom layer. Top and bottom copper is riveted together and fired in a kiln. Now the dragonfly shape is hand sawed, and the veins in the wings are engraved using a hand-held rotary instrument. “The Moon was Cold” The Moon sat in the sky at night and was cold and lonely. Not even the stars could help with her lonesome sorrow. So one day, the Sun told the Moon, "Why not heat yourself upon my warmth and enjoy my company while you do?" "Oh. I would never want to inconvenience you." said the Moon, who is very shy. 'It is of no bother at all." replied the Sun. "Please, help yourself." So one day, the Moon took a rest atop the granite tower. Carried Away ; A layer of glass enamel is first fused on a 24 gauge copper pendant. The shape to be placed on top is hand cut with a jewelry saw from another 24 gauge copper. The figure is hand engraved, and a wax coat of black is rubbed into the engraving. Prongs are then cut and riveted into the copper to hold the handmade fused glass raindrop. The hand-cut, engraved copper form is placed atop the first copper enameled layer. Set in a 1500-degree kiln, the shape and the bottom layer become one. Finished with a fused glass raindrop set in the prongs of the top figure. The Moon and the Blue Glass Raindrop. In the sky hung the Moon. That was nothing new. It hung there every night. But now, it has a friend. A Blue glass raindrop that keeps it company. Some wondered how it got there. Some wondered if it would stay. And some just wondered. How it was created; The Moon is cut with a hand saw from a 24 gauge piece of copper. Two thin strips of copper are attached to the copper using a copper rivet. The top copper is then riveted to a bottom 24 gauge copper piece. The moon is painted on the bottom copper using glass enamel and fused in a 1500-degree kiln.
